Gilas gearing up on World Cup 2014

After their runner-up finish in the recent FIBA Asia Cup, Gilas Pilipinas is now preparing for the battle at the FIBA World Cup which will be held in six cities in Spain in Aug. 30 to Sept. 14 next year.

“ I think we could we can win the games there, but it depends on the draw. It’s hard to make the second round. It’s tight”, Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes said.

In a meeting with small group of sportswriters in Wackwack Golf and Country Club at Mandaluyong City, Reyes enjoyed playing golf after the games. He said that it is his first since Davao (PBA All-Star Week last May).

Also, Reyes said that he is getting closer in achieving their goal to be in Spain for the World Cup and as one of the three Asian qualifiers to the 24-man FIBA qualifiers draw.

The countries prestigous and inspiration line-up with Jimmy Alapag, Jayson Castro, LA Tenorio, Gary David, Larry Fonacier, Gabe Norwood, Ranidel de Ocampo, Jeff Chan, Marc Pingris, Japeth Aguilar, Junmar Fajardo and naturalized player Marcus Douthit lead Gilas Pilipinas in triumph, outbeating Korea in a hard game in the semis.
